This is a concept class, designed for OCMQG, or a theory class a-la-Gwen Marston Liberated Quiltmaking techniques. Modern piecing. You will learn four to six different "no rules" "no rulers" techniques for
a. making fabric from fabric
b. making shapes
c. making blocks/cutting into them
This is a working techniques class – we are not making a quilt, we will be trying lots of different techniques with a lot of hands on machine time, show, sample, and sew.sew.sew!!
“If you sew long enough, the pieces are bound to get bigger” and “If you think you’re done with a block, cut into it again” will the themes of the day.
Class is $45 for dues-paying guild members and $50 for non-members. Payment to Linda Shotwell, Guild Treasurer will confirm your place in the class.
TOOL BOX:
• Sewing machine and manual
• Full size sewing scissors and small scissors
• Small cutting mat and strip ruler along with small ruler of your choice (Sewing Party does have some mats)
• Rotary cutter with new blade (45 or 28mm)
• Piecing threads in neutral grey, 2-4 loaded bobbins of the same thread
• Pens, notebook, Camera!
Fabrics
• A Shoebox size container of little scraps, 3” or smaller including landscape or conversation prints that touch your heart
• A ‘tub’ or ‘shallow container’ of small, medium and large prints varying in value and color (these can be large scraps)
• The equivalent of 24 fat quarters or more
including some long strips or quarter yard pieces
• A small stack of small/medium textures in a neutral background color - all light value (these can be large scraps)
• The equivalent of 12 fat quarters or more
including some long strips or quarter yard pieces
**this is a working techniques class – we are not making a quilt, we are honing our techniques, so select your fabrics accordingly
miscellaneous
• Bring any other items necessary for your own personal comfort and anything you might also remember that I have not….
We will be trying lots of different techniques with a lot of hands on machine time!
