  • The next Weekend Sew is on September 18 from 12-4 pm at The Sewing Party.

  • The next Guild Meeting is on Thursday, September 29 from 6:30-8:30 pm at The Sewing Party.

  • The Scrap Sew Workshop on Sunday, October 23 at The Sewing Party.  This is an extra Sew and does not replace our regular Weekend Sew on October 16. Each person needs to bring 3 bags of scraps (small ones, medium sized ones and large ones). Yolanda will facilitate this workshop where we will learn how to make improvisational quilt blocks with our scraps.  Expect more details soon!

Yolanda told us that she applied online for a VIP Discount Card at Jo-Ann Fabrics. It was mailed to her and she validated it at her local Jo-Ann store. VIP card holders receive a 10% discount on their total purchase, including sale items. Laura requested her card as well and it took about 2 -3 weeks to get.

We have had requests and are looking for someone to do a Hand Quilting Demo & a Machine Pieced Hexagon (Y-seam) demonstration at a future monthly meeting. Cecile volunteered to do a demonstration on machine pieced hexies for the September meeting.

An Evening with Kaffe Fassett has been scheduled on September 26 in LA.

Block of the Quarter: The Block of the Quarter for Fall is due at the September monthly meeting. The pattern is called Pick Up Stix and the pattern is posted on Ning under BOQ. Colors for the main block are white, white-on-white, off-white – any white-white-ish color. The “stix” are any autumn color – your choice. You shouldn’t have to purchase any fabric for this block – hit that stash!

Fat Quarter Swap: This month, the theme was Hot August Nights. We had several attendees brings several fat quarters to swap.

Laura had the clever idea for the September Fat Quarter swap theme… Apple Season!! Be creative :-)

Show and Tell: We were treated to some fabulous show and tell items from Laura, Linda, Monica, Yolanda and Susan!  Laura showed us her "spumoni" quilt that she made for a baby quilt however her daughter loved it so much she got the quilt and Laura will have to make another baby quilt.   Susan showed us her classy Curlicue quilt she made for her step-daughter (and she added with fabrics she purchased at Sewing Party!) Yolanda brought her Bee Happy spider web quilt, fully quilted but she really brought it to get help with a weak seem.  Problem solved! Expect to see the quilt completed binding and all by next meeting.  I forgot what anyone else brought???

Flying Geese Demo by Yolanda: An amazingly simple technique to put together flying geese. Plus a measurement guide to get your geese just so. (If you need anything higher level, Laura volunteered her hubby as he’s a physicist J )You can view the tutorial from Happy Quilting here:

A suggestion was made to create a Resources area to the Ning site such as long arm quilters, etc.

See you in September if not sooner!
