New Business:
We’re still looking into a super fun trip to LA’s famous Garment District – specifically to Michael Levine! Dates are forthcoming, but it’s looking like it’ll be a weekend in July. Keep your eyes peeled for an email from Susan.
The International Quilt Festival is coming to Long Beach July 28-31! The class schedule is here (http://www.quilts.com/newHome/shows/viewer.php?page=../../lbqf11/catalogue), so check it out to see if there’s anything you’d be interested in taking.
OCMQG Officers:
We discussed officers and decided on the following:
Dues:
We will need to discuss yearly dues in the next month or so. The Ning site annual fee is coming up in August, and it’s $199 annually.
Block of the Month Program:
We’ve decided to move to a Block of the Quarter in order to get more participation.
Susan has agreed to take over the operation and will be in charge of picking out quilt block patterns. We will continue to pick the colors at the meetings.
The Mod Circle is extended through next month, so bring your completed blocks. Colors are purple, red, and orange.
Monthly Demo:
Yolanda did an awesome demo on binding with faux piping. If you missed it, she posted the how-to on her blog here: http://yolanda.typepad.com/my_weblog/2011/03/binding-by-machine-using-fake-piping-or-flange-.html
Charity Quilts:
We’ve completed our very first baby quilt for charity!! It will be donated to Casa Teresa.
Don’t forget our ongoing project for string pieced blocks. Make an 8.5” square with a 1.5” white, white on white, or off-white center, and any color strips on either side.
Gwen has purchased a bunch of beautiful fabric to make another charity quilt based on the Dresden Plate pattern. The tutorial on the block is here: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2010/04/dresden-plate-block-sew-along/. If you’re interested, see Gwen for the fabric. All you have to do is sew!
June Meeting:
Swap:
Bring a patriotic FQ for a swap next month. It can be a solid (red, white, or blue), have flag print, or anything patriotic!
Bring your ugliest FQ for a fun show & tell!
