WELCOME/ NEW MEMBER INTRODUCTIONS

2 new members introduced themselves:

  • Ginger has been quilting for four years and comes to us from San Clemente
  • Marie is newer to quilting and since I was not taking notes I forget where she is from (oops!)

ANNOUNCEMENTS/NEW BUSINESS

  • Next Weekend Sew is Saturday, October 2nd, 11am at the Glenwood Recreation Center
  • Next regular meeting is Thursday, October 28th, 6:30pm at The Sewing Party
  • Review of Bylaws
    • Melinda presented the finalized draft of the bylaws.  She asked members to review this draft and provide back to her for finalization.   Until the bylaws are completed we will operate as friendship group.  In April of 2011 we will elect officers.  I’d like to thank Bunnie & Melinda for getting this done!
  • Vote On Logo
    • Susan presented three of the final logos she & Kristine decided on and I must saw WOW!  A motion was made by Yolanda to adopt a formal logo and use the two runners up for business cards & shirts.  Yolanda & Susan will update ning with the new logo header soon & pursue Café Express.  Thank you again Susan for your creativity & time!!  You will see your logo’s on shirts, bags & other “stuff” soon.

SHOW & TELL

Marie showed us one of two very lovely wave quilts she made.  She made one for her boyfriend & one for his best friend.  Both surf & one is a Maori from New Zealand and accordingly  Marie wanted to capture a spiritual essence in the quilt by using wave looking blocks & fabric which represented water and sky – which she did!

Regan showed some of the completed Sunbonnet Sue blocks she has completed for her daughters quilt. The blocks are just lovely!  She used scraps from clothes she has made for her daughter along with her grandmothers handkerchiefs.  Regan also embroiders the blocks!

Gwen brought in a BEAUTIFUL block from her car after show & tell.  I didn’t catch the pattern but it looked like New York Beauty Blocks or Mariners Compass blocks.  I will see if we can get a picture of this one!!

BOM

Only a few brought their made blocks.  Members agreed to extend this months block to October as more wish to make up blocks and get in on this one!

OUR SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER SWAP

We swapped baggies full of scraps 2” or larger – and then Yolanda & Deidra did some after swap swapping with their new treasures ;-)

October’s swap will be a surprise fat quarter (surprise because it will be wrapped!)

PROJECT MODERN

The Modern Quilt Guild has begun a year long series of challenges – one every 3 months.  The first challenge was launched last week.  The series features a great selection of prizes and celebrity sewing judges.  Please see the Modern Quilt Guild site for details and to participate.  There will ultimately be a Janome 7700 Horizon winner.
